Kizu Kenji is a mega boss that arrived in Brawl Stars on October 25, the reward for opening coffin 4 in the Brawl-O-Ween #ScaryCoffins community event. His ladder runs six stages, from Expert up to Impossible III, and he is only around for about two days. With random teammates you can realistically expect to clear up to Impossible. The last two stages, Impossible II and III, are a fight for a coordinated team, though with lucky teammates you can go all the way. What decides every run is the same: keep constant long-range damage on him and never stand where his charge lands.

How the Kizu Kenji mega boss works

Kizu Kenji came out of coffin 4 of the #ScaryCoffins event, where the community votes on which coffin opens next. He belongs to the same family of limited-time boss fights as the bosses in our Brawl Bosses guide. Each win moves your team up one stage, and the game records your best time on every stage you clear, so the top of the ladder doubles as a speedrun.

The six stages and their rewards

Six stages, easiest first. The first one pays a Halloween Box and every stage after it pays a Starr Drop, so there are no Chaos Drops on this ladder:

StageReward for the win
Expert (easiest)Halloween Box
MasterStarr Drop
InsaneStarr Drop
ImpossibleStarr Drop
Impossible IIStarr Drop
Impossible IIIStarr Drop

He also gets tougher every time you beat him: more health, more damage and new abilities, per the Brawl Stars wiki.

What Kizu Kenji does

Kizu Kenji is the boss version of Kenji in his Kizu skin, and per the Brawl Stars wiki his abilities are identical to Oni Kenji’s in the Oni Hunt game mode. He fights up close with melee hits, fires shots straight ahead (in a full circle from Hard up), charges across the arena, and brings robot minions with him. From Insane on he goes into God Mode and no longer gets stunned after a while.

Best Brawlers for Kizu Kenji

The common thread: Kizu Kenji is a melee boss with a charge, so every pick players report success with shoots from far enough away that his charge does not reach, and keeps firing without a break. Only constant damage wears his health bar down.

  • Sirius - Brawl Stars brawlerSirius: his shadow forms deal a huge amount of damage and handle the robot minions Kizu Kenji spawns very well.
  • Brock - Brawl Stars brawlerBrock: hits from long range, so he never stands inside the charge, and his Super’s rocket barrage covers an area, which suits the robot minions.
  • Colt - Brawl Stars brawlerColt: high sustained straight-line damage, and against a target this big every shot in the burst lands. Reload speed is the whole job.
  • Rico - Brawl Stars brawlerRico: long range and bouncing shots keep his damage flowing from outside melee range.
  • Starr Nova - Brawl Stars brawlerStarr Nova: only pick her if you have her Hypercharge, which lets her deal insane burst damage and heal.
